The story behind Icarus

Made for pilots by a pilot

Austin native Nick Sinopoli is the inventor of the ICARUS Device. After a friend perished in an spatial disorientation accident, Nick was determined to make a revolutionary invention that would teach pilots to survive flight into low
visibility. His creation has now helped thousands of pilots on all seven continents train for low visibility situations.

The inspiration for ICARUS arose out of the flimsy paper hoods he used during his own instrument flight training. Nick began prototyping the idea with components bought online and at radio shack and even sold his car to pay for the Patent he was awarded in 2016. The device was commercially launched in 2021 and quickly developed a following in the Helicopter Air Ambulance and Law Enforcement community.

Since the Air Worthiness Release was granted in April 2022, the US Army has been the largest ICARUS user. ICARUS Devices have been delivered to Active units in Japan, Korea, Germany, the 101st Airborne and one third of the National Guard.

A dual rated aviator, Nick has had a lifelong love of aviation. He graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering.
